HEAD OF THE DEPARTMENT
Manish Chakraborti is a distinguished architect and urban planner, currently serving as Professor and Head of Architecture at Sister Nivedita University, Kolkata. He holds degrees from Jadavpur University and the Indian Institute of Technology, Kharagpur, with a Master's in Conservation from the University of York, UK. His expertise includes conservation architecture, with notable contributions recognized internationally.
Manish Chakraborti is a prominent figure in the field of architecture and urban planning, currently holding the position of Professor and Head of Architecture at Sister Nivedita University, Kolkata. He completed his Bachelor's degree in Architecture from Jadavpur University, followed by a Master's degree in City Planning from the Indian Institute of Technology, Kharagpur, and a Master's in Conservation from the University of York, UK.
Nominated by the Government of West Bengal as a Member to the Council of Architecture (CoA), Manish plays a crucial role in shaping architectural education and practice standards in India. His expertise as a conservation architect has been widely acknowledged, with his works published in national and international journals. He has authored several books on architecture and conservation, mentored numerous student theses, and contributed as a guest columnist and visiting faculty to architecture schools both in India and abroad.
Manish Chakraborti has served as a consultant to prestigious organizations including the World Monuments Fund, National Museum of Denmark, Department of Culture (Government of Rajasthan), INTACH, and the Archaeological Survey of India. His outstanding contributions to conservation practice in India and the region were recognized with the UNESCO Asia Pacific Heritage Award of Distinction in 2016, specifically for the Conservation of St Olav Church.
His career exemplifies a commitment to advancing architectural knowledge, promoting conservation practices, and contributing significantly to the field of architecture both nationally and internationally.
